Practical Tool

Property information preparation tool

5 April 2026Telo Family Law

A practical tool to help organise the information often needed before property advice, negotiation or formal disclosure steps begin.

A practical version you can actually use

This tool is designed to help organise information in a more practical way. You do not need every item at once. Use it to identify what you already know, what material you already have, and what may still need attention before advice, negotiation or more formal steps.

Assets

Create a working list of the major assets currently known.

Liabilities

List debts and ongoing financial obligations that may be relevant.

Income and financial position

This helps create an early picture of current capacity and pressure points.

Core documents

You do not need everything at once, but the key records are useful.

Important dates

Dates often affect both urgency and available options.

Issues to raise in advice

Use this section to identify what needs early legal guidance.

Important timing note

Timing can materially affect family law matters. If financial issues remain unresolved, married parties generally need to commence financial or property proceedings within 12 months after a divorce takes effect, and de facto parties generally need to commence within two years of breakdown.

This material is general in nature and is not a substitute for tailored legal advice.
